Each pot and ceramic piece made by Bridget McVey has it’s own story. Making in small batches she creates vases and trays from thick, marble-like slabs of porcelain, whilst her bowls, cups and items of tableware are handthrown. The pottery is made to be used and handled and the spontaneity of the work echoes its predessors. Using soft clay and a mix of rich contrasting glazes Bridget achieves a tactile quality with subtlety and richness, whilst creating a personal record of a time and place by impressing plant forms into the clay, alongside drawn and stamped forms. Layering with slips and developing glazes, Bridget is adept at showing the delicacy of both glazes and the natural form.
