In ‘Seascapes’ Claire uses the technique of photomontage to juxtapose and layer original photographic imagery to create a more intense sense of the British coastline than perhaps a photograph alone could do. Slightly surreal in places, the ambiguous use of space within the images adds depth to pictures, which at first glance seem straight forward.
Her passion for colour and texture, inherited form a background in Textiles result in rich and poetic images, which hopefully tap into memories or ideas of the coast that are more common to all of us. Claire has created eleven new limited edition prints, specifically for this exhibition, including a number inspired by the local area of Thanet, but will also be exhibiting previous work, which has not hung in this Gallery before.
The Margate Gallery owned by Janet Williams is full of beautiful artworks and gifts and Margate itself is a great location to visit for a day out. With the creative revival of the Old Town, and the opening of Turner Contemporary not to mention the glorious beach, there is plenty to stimulate.
Claire will be giving an Artist Talk on Saturday 4 August from 3-4pm at the Margate Gallery.
