To 24 February 2013

Exhibition opens 19th January 2013 – 24 February 2013

Private view on Friday 18 January 2013, from 6-8pm

Introduction:

Inspired by the striking fields and beaches of his home town in South East Kent, local contemporary landscape artist Anthony Giles has created a series of paintings for an upcoming exhibition at the Margate Gallery opening on Friday 18th January 2013 from 6-8pm.

The exhibition will feature approximately 20 paintings collectively revealing Anthony Giles’s remarkable technique for capturing atmosphere, light and colour. The paintings have been created mostly ‘en plein’ with final touches made in his studio.

Illuminating the Elements promises an engaging look at the artists’ extraordinary interpretation of British and local scenery. This exhibition will coincide with the creation of a 36ft canvas painting of Margate at the Harbour Arm Gallery to raise funds at auction for Pilgrims Hospices in early January 2013.

Artist Biography:

Anthony was born in Ramsgate, Kent and attended Hartsdown Secondary School before studying at the London College of Print and Design. His early career years were spent as a graphic designer and photographer for a screen printing firm before progressing to providing illustrations for magazines such as ‘The Lady’ and ‘What Video’.  His illustrative talents soon brought commissions from companies such as ICI Oils, Hornby Hobbies and Scalextric, but his painting career started in earnest whilst recovering from a car accident which left him with serious back injuries. Following two major operations on his spine he found himself unable to do very much but sit and develop his painterly technique, finding his inspiration in the local beaches and marshes that surround his home in Kent.
